I think the problem is that you are using inline instead of inlines. Here you have link to django source code ModelAdmin class.

why not just save your self the trouble and use a custom user model?

that way you have one model for writing into and only one model for when you’ll be calling it in your views.

# settings.py
AUTH_USER_MODEL = 'yourapp.UserProfile'

# models.py
class UserProfile(AbstractBaseUser):
    #Extra values
    bio = models.TextField(null=True)


# admin.py
admin.site.register(UserProfile)

and anywhere else you want to use user instance (ie. other models, views) just use settings.AUTH_USER_MODEL
