How to Add Power BI Report to SharePoint

Adding a Power BI report to SharePoint can provide users with easy access to interactive data visualizations and insights. Follow the steps below to embed a Power BI report in SharePoint:

  1. Ensure you have the necessary permissions to edit the SharePoint page where you want to add the Power BI report.
  2. Open your Power BI report in the Power BI service.
  3. Click on the “File” menu in the top navigation bar.
  4. Select “Embed report” from the drop-down menu.
  5. Choose the “SharePoint” option from the available embed options.
  6. Copy the SharePoint Embed Code provided by Power BI.
  7. Go to your SharePoint page and switch to Edit mode.
  8. Insert a “Script Editor” web part in the desired section of the page. (If Script Editor is not available, you may need to enable it or use a different web part.)
  9. Edit the Script Editor web part and paste the SharePoint Embed Code from Power BI into the web part’s content area.
  10. Click on “Apply” and then “OK” to save the changes to the web part.
  11. Exit Edit mode to see the embedded Power BI report in your SharePoint page.

Once embedded, the Power BI report will be visible to users who have access to the SharePoint page. They can interact with the report, explore the data, and gain valuable insights.

Example:

Let’s say you have a SharePoint page called “Sales Dashboard” where you want to add a Power BI report displaying sales analytics. Following the steps above:

  1. Ensure you have necessary permissions to edit the “Sales Dashboard” page.
  2. Open the Power BI report with sales analytics in the Power BI service.
  3. Click on “File” menu and choose “Embed report” option.
  4. Select “SharePoint” as the embedding option.
  5. Copy the SharePoint Embed Code provided by Power BI.
  6. Switch to Edit mode in the “Sales Dashboard” SharePoint page.
  7. Insert a “Script Editor” web part.
  8. Paste the SharePoint Embed Code into the Script Editor web part’s content area.
  9. Save the changes to the web part and exit Edit mode.

After these steps, your “Sales Dashboard” SharePoint page will display the embedded Power BI report showcasing sales analytics. Users with access to the page will be able to interact with the report and explore the data set.
