How To Add Filters In Power Bi Report Builder

Adding filters in Power BI Report Builder

Power BI Report Builder is a powerful tool for creating, designing, and sharing reports. Filters allow users to dynamically control the data displayed in a report based on certain criteria. Here’s how you can add filters to your report:

  1. Open your Power BI Report Builder and navigate to the report you want to add filters to.
  2. Locate the “Filters” pane on the right side of the screen. If it’s not visible, go to the “View” menu and make sure the “Filters” pane is checked.
  3. In the “Filters” pane, you’ll see a list of all available fields in your report. Select the field you want to apply a filter to by clicking on it.
  4. Once you select a field, you can choose from various filter types such as “Equals”, “Greater Than”, “Less Than”, “Contains”, etc. Select the filter type that suits your requirement.
  5. After selecting a filter type, you need to specify the value(s) for the filter. For example, if you want to filter the report based on a specific category, you would enter the category name in the “Value” field.
  6. You can also add multiple filters by repeating steps 3 to 5 for each additional filter.
  7. Once you have added all the desired filters, click on the “Apply” button to apply the filters to your report.

Here’s an example to illustrate how filters work in Power BI Report Builder:

Let’s say you have a sales report that contains data for multiple regions and you want to filter the report to only show data for the “North” region. You would follow the steps mentioned above:

  1. Select the “Region” field from the “Filters” pane.
  2. Choose the “Equals” filter type.
  3. Enter “North” in the “Value” field.
  4. Click on the “Apply” button.

Once you apply the filter, the report will automatically update to display data only for the “North” region.

By adding filters to your Power BI Report Builder, you can easily customize the data displayed in your reports based on specific criteria, making it more interactive and insightful for end-users.
