there are a number of ad networks that provide javascript snippets (usually) to put on your pages, and thats shows the ads. You’ll just provide an iframe for the ads to be displayed in. The ad network tracks impressions, clicks, unique users, etc. already. You’ll probably get a report with all this info. All you do is register with them, drop the javascript, and (hopefully) start getting paid. Not sure why you’d want to do this yourself.
Obviously the largest ad network is google’s AdSense, but if you search for “ad network” you’ll come up with a whole truckload of alternatives.
